On Tuesday 13th we were invited along to an event hosted by Tameside Community Safety Fund which is a fantastic initiative and helps local community groups of all sizes bid for funding within certain categories from creating greener spaces to helping the elderly.
We decided that we would like to create a green space and invest in our local community, primarily the elderly who may be suffering from social isolation and having enough money to enjoy spending time with friends.
We were successful in our bid alongside 10 other fantastic projects – our project is to create a wildlife pond to attract native wildlife which is slowly dwindling in the area and we will be running some sessions which will try to engage the elderly community to join us for a coffee, cake and a good old natter; this part of the project will be called ‘The Elderberries’.
